Michigan-based Alpena Flyers of the U.S. Premier Hockey League have signed 6-foot-5, 215-pound defenseman Brett Armstrong for the 2016-2017 season.

A native of Utah, Armstrong had 8 goals, 6 assists, 14 points and 50 penalty minutes in 21 games with Copper Hills High School last season.

“You can always teach players different systems, or develop a player however you want. Having size is something you can’t teach a player. Brett is a big kid and with hard work he will be a great addition to our defensive core,” said Flyers coach Russ Anderson.

Armstrong marks the second player from Utah who is heading to Alpena for the ’16-17 season following the earlier signing of forward Ben McCleery.

The Flyers will be holding an open camp in Flint, Michigan on July 30-31. It will be the last tryout before players will report to Alpena for main camp.
