After being part of three Stanley Cup championship teams with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sault Ste. Marie native Ron Pyette is taking his scouting talents to the Buffalo Sabres.

The 44-year old Pyette, who has been a National Hockey League scout since 2008, confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that he has accepted an offer from Buffalo to join the Sabres staff.

Pyette will continue to be based out of Calgary as he switches NHL teams from the Penguins to the Sabres.

A graduate of Korah Collegiate in Sault Ste. Marie and Laurentian University in Sudbury, Pyette got his start in scouting with the erstwhile Parry Sound Shamrocks of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League while he was still a student. At that time, Sault Ste. Marie’s Charly Murray was Parry Sound’s chief scout.
