Michigan Warriors are one win away from capturing the North American Hockey League’s North Division playoff crown.

The Warriors blanked Port Huron Fighting Falcons 3-0 on Saturday to take a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-five series.

The shutout was the second in as many nights for Michigan, which finished in second place during the regular season, 10 points back of first-place Port Huron.

The Warriors won the series opener on Friday, a 1-0 victory that was not decided until a third overtime period.

In Saturday’s second-straight road win at Port Huron, Michigan got two goals from Tyler Groat, another from TJ Stuntz and 28 saves from Trevor Gorsuch.

Game-day Gorsuch has faced 83 shots in the two outings against Port Huron and has stopped them all.

As a team, Michigan is now 5-0 in this year’s playoffs — the Warriors swept Janesville Jets in the opening round — and Gorsuch has started and finished all five games for a 5-0 record while blocking 172 of 177 shots for an eye-popping 0.87 goals-against average and .972 save percentage.

Game 3 in the series is slated for Perani Arena and Event Centre in Flint — home of the Warriors — on Friday, April 25.

  4. Randy: Keep up the amazing work . . . and the articles on the Warriors. Todays article is the 7th that you have wrote about the Warriors since the start of the Playoffs . . . and I think that is as many as the Flint Journal and Mlive have wrote about the Warriors all season long! There are many Warriors Fans in this area who grately appreciate all of your articles ! Thank You again.

  5. Another fine article Randy, you are a terrific hockey reporter. I am sure you would love to write some articles about Lady Jane’s Janesville Jets but it seems as though the Jets have nothing on their schedule right now except spare time. And why is that Jane? Oh yeah, that’s right, they were DUSTED by the Michigan Warriors in THREE STRAIGHT! See you next season Jane and prepare to get your Janesville ass kicked again!

  6. to Lady Jane..
I understand I live in Texas and may not understand the inner working s of the closeness of the teams. That is the only thing that I can see make the hating so… fevered…
But it does seem, Randy is only reporting the facts. Not an imaginary set of awesome stats put up by one hell of a goalie. That young man has not stopped you from enjoying your day so, please dont spoil ours that are Warrior fans.
