It took Timmins, Ontario product Austin Holmes only a few days into 2019 to score his first goal as a member of the Kanata Lasers of the Central Canada Hockey League.

Holmes, a 2000 birth year forward, netted his first CCHL goal in his eighth game with Kanata. He had two assists in seven games with the Lasers before connecting on his maiden CCHL marker.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Holmes was acquired by Kanata from the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League earlier this season. He had a goal and an assist in 18 NOJHL games with the Rock.

A youngster who has a sandpaper edge to him, Holmes scored 14 goals and racked up 117 penalty minutes in 33 games while playing for the Timmins Majors of the Great North Midget Hockey League during the 2017-2018 campaign
