Sault Female Hockey Association has passed a motion to implement a comprehensive concussion protocol for the 2017-2018 season, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

The steps includes the development of a concussion protocol policy, mandatory training and education for house league and rep coaches and managers, annual mandatory testing for Sault Wildcat rep players and educational opportunities for all parents and players.

“Female athletes are more susceptible to injuries like concussions, especially when playing sports such as hockey,” opined Darrin MacLachlan who is the coach and player development director for the SFHA.

“Our coaches and managers, for both house league and Wildcat rep teams, will be trained and have access to a mobile app that leads them through assessment of a potential concussion without leaving the bench,” MacLachlan added.
