Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the pee wee major AAA, Northern Ontario Hockey League, are home for four games against two high-end, non-conference opponents this weekend.

The Jr. Greyhounds, who boast a 10-0 record thus far this 2016-2017 season, will play host to the Thunder Bay Kings and the Detroit-area Oakland Jr. Grizzlies.

Showing their offensive prowess and defensive stinginess, the Jr. Greyhounds have out-scored the opposition 69-7 in their 10 games to date.

As the Kings, Thunder Bay is a perennial powerhouse in northwestern Ontario. This version of the Kings competes in a higher-level league — bantam AA — in Thunder Bay.

Oakland, meanwhile, has a record of 6-1 thus far this season with the Jr. Grizzlies only loss being to no. 1 ranked Detroit Honeybaked.

Jr. Grizzlies alumni includes goalie Brandon Halverson, fresh from a three-year Ontario Hockey League career with the Soo Greyhounds and a National Hockey League draft pick of the New York Rangers.

What you think about “Testing the PW major Hounds”

  1. Should be some fine hockey this weekend at the PeeWee AAA level. Kings always have great teams along with Jr. Grizzlies.

Hope the local boys fair well. Word on the street indicates they’re a good club.

  2. OJG is a very good team. We’ve made a number of changes this season to improve. We’ve got some real good players and a goalie that’s big enough to play Midget hockey. Fully expect tough games against Soo team. Played them twice last season, both were good games.

Excited to play at the Essar Centre, hear it’s a great arena. See you guys Saturday.
