Flyers have a Kap on third

A record of 16-9-3 through 28 games has the Kapuskasing Flyers sitting in a comfortable third spot on the major midget side of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

Balance has been a key for coach Glen Denney’s Kap crew through 28 games of the 2017-2018 campaign.

The top five scorers for the Flyers are spaced out nicely led by scoring leader Mathieu Parent and his 14 goals, 27 assists, 41 points. After Parent are fellow forwards Jared Dupuis with 10-30-40 totals, Jacob Comeau at 14-15-29, Martin Poisson at 12-15-27 and defenseman Gabriel John-George with 11-6-17 numbers.

Goalies Sebastian Plamondon and Jaden Chouinard have shared the twine tending duties and have 8 wins apiece.

The Flyers return to league play with a home game against the New Liskeard Cubs on Friday, January 5.

Following are the league standings at the Christmas break.

MAJOR MIDGET DIVISION

1. North Bay Trappers 23-2-2, 48 points. 2. Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves 20-4-0, 40 points. 3. Kapuskasing Flyers 16-9-3, 35 points. 4. Soo Greyhounds 9-16-4, 22 points. 5. Timmins Majors 10-13-1, 21 points. 6. New Liskeard Cubs 5-20-1, 11 points.

MINOR MIDGET DIVISION

1. North Bay Trappers 10-5-0, 20 points. 2. Sudbury Wolves 8-7-0, 16 points. 3. Soo Thunderbirds 2-13-3, 7 points.
