Forwards Brock Santa Maria and Nick Jameus and goalie Noah Zeppa sparked the Soo Major Thunderbirds to a Great North Midget Hockey League weekend sweep of the visiting Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.

The Major Thunderbirds blanked the Nickel Capital Wolves 4-0 on Saturday before eking out a 2-1 decision this afternoon that improved the Soo’s record to a modest 6-19-0 on the season. Sudbury now has a record of 9-8-1.

Santa Maria followed a three goals, one assist outing on Saturday with his team-leading eighth tally of the season today.

Jameus had three assists on Saturday to boost his team-leading point totals to 15, including five goals.

And Zeppa, arguably the best goalie in the nine-team Great North, allowed just one goal in the two games to backstop the Major Birds to the sweep of Sudbury.
