Another day, another recognition for Lake Superior State Lakers highly-skilled sophomore defenseman Owen Headrick.

After being named Western Collegiate Hockey Association co-defensive player of the week by virtue of his one-goal, five-assist, six-point performance in the Lakers two-game weekend sweep of the Michigan State Spartans, Headrick has earned national recognition.

NCAA.com has named Headrick its second star of the week from among all Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association players.

Bemidji State senior goalie Michael Bitzer earned first-star honours and Holy Cross goalie Paul Berrafato was named third star behind Headrick, a 6-foot, 205-pound product of Garden River First Nation.

Formerly of the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, Headrick had 5 goals, 7 assists, 12 points in 39 games as a freshman for Lake State in 2015-2016. His 12 points were sixth-best on what was a low-scoring Lakers team.
