Soo Thunderbirds have drawn first blood in their Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League cross-border rivalry with the Soo Eagles.
Playing at home on Saturday night, the Thunderbirds cuffed the Eagles 7-2 in the regular season opener for both teams.
Hulking forward Matthew Bazarin tallied twice and Nolan Ford and newcomer Tyler Savard had a pair of assists apiece to spark the Thunderbirds, who out-shot the Eagles 34-28.
