Blind River Beavers tightened up the standings in the West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League on Thursday with the help of a new goalie.

Thomson Phinney, acquired earlier in the day from the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Jr. Hockey League, made 29 saves as Blind River scored a 4-2 road decision over the Rayside Balfour Canadians.

The victory for Blind River halted a two-game losing streak.

Only four points separate the top five teams in the NOJHL West heading into weekend play.

Soo Thunderbirds (5-0-0) and Blind River (5-3-0) both have 10 points followed by the Soo Eagles (4-4-0) with 8, Rayside Balfour (3-3-1) with 7 and Elliot Lake Wildcats (3-5-0) with 6. Espanola Express is last in the West with 2 points from a record of 1-5-0.
