Soo Eagles continued their winning ways of late while at the same time putting a halt to the seven-game unbeaten streak of the cross-river Soo Thunderbirds

The Eagles got 33 saves from Carter McPhail and solo goals from Jake Palmerio, Nick Techel, Owen Kipke and Christian Bardarson en route to a 4-3 triumph over the Thunderbirds in front of a Saturday night showing of about 670 fans at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo.

The victory was the second straight for the Eagles, their sixth in their last eight outings and improved their record to 8-6-0 through 14 games thus far this Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season.

Trailing 4-1 in the third period, the Thunderbirds made it close but fell short, though they still sit atop the West Division standings with a record of 13-4-1, just ahead of the hard-charging Rayside-Balfour Canadians.

Tyler Malpass, Braden Robbins and Austin Heinrich tallied for the T-Birds in Saturday’s loss to the Eagles.
