Slick defenseman Levi Rowan is moving on from the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to play at the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 level, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Rowan, a 1996 birth-year skater who hails from Cadillac, Michigan, is headed to the Aquinas College Saints effective the 2016-2017 season. Aquinas College is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

As an NOJHL rookie in 2015-2016, Rowan suited up for all 60 of the Eagles games, regular season and playoffs included.

In total, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Rowan had 2 goals, 15 assists, 17 points for the Eagles from his blue-line position.

Jordan Permoda, who is the head coach at Aquinas College, said he had a chance to watch Rowan play for the Eagles late in the 2015-2016 season and came away impressed.

“He moves the puck north really well,” Permoda said of Rowan, who besides being a smart hockey player, is strong academically.

Eagles co-coach/general manager Bruno Bragagnolo is happy to see Rowan heading to school.

“We’re happy for Levi and the decision he has made to go to school and continue to play hockey,” said Bragagnolo. “He did a good job for us. He’s a really good hockey player, a really good student and a really nice kid.”

In heading to Aquinas College, Rowan is joining a four-year old hockey program that made it to the ACHA Division 3 championship game this season only to lose in the title tilt to the Oakland University Grizzlies.

The 2016-2017 season will be the last for Aquinas College at the Division 3 level. Permoda confirmed that Aquinas will move up to the Division 1 level in 2017-2018.
