Theriault going to the Dogs

Better late than never. Three years after being drafted by the Niagara IceDogs, Sault Ste. Marie product Lucas Theriault has signed on with the Ontario Hockey League team.

Theriault, who has a 2000 birth date, was selected by Niagara in the 12th round of the 2016 OHL priority selections draft. He has since suited up for the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The high-scoring forward netted 40 goals, 36 assists, 76 points to lead the Thunderbirds to a first-place overall finish during the 2018-2019 NOJHL regular season.

Theriault then added 13 goals, 15 assists, 28 points in 19 playoff games as the Thunderbirds made it to the NOJHL finals before losing to the Hearst Lumberjacks.

  1. Good for Lucas. I have seen him play and he should be elevated to OHL. The good news is my nephew gets to enjoy his play as he goes often to see the Ice Dogs.
