Flint flush with 5 overagers

As the general manager of the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League, Barclay Branch finds himself in a good trade position.

With the recent return of 33-goal scorer Kole Sherwood from the National Hockey League farm system of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Flint now has five overage players on its roster.

OHL teams can dress only three overage players per game.

In addition to Sherwood, Flint’s overage cupboard is currently carrying forwards Maurizio Colella, Ryan Moore and Luke Kirwan and goalie Garrett Forrest.

Colella and Moore are the Firebirds leading scorers through nine games this season with 12 points apiece.

Kirwan has played in just two games and has yet to score but netted 14 goals in only 31 games last season.

And in net, Forrest has a 5-1-1 record, 2.90 goals against average and .917 save percentage for the 5-3-1 Firebirds thus far this season.

With room for just three, two are expendable and Branch stands to command a pretty good return, depending on which two players the Firebirds decide to part with.
