Members of the 1993 Memorial Cup champion Soo Greyhounds are holding a 25th anniversary reunion weekend beginning on Friday of this week.

The reunion is slated to begin with a dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Marconi Club. The dinner is open to the public and advance tickets, at a cost of $30 per person, can be purchased at Soo Source For Sports in downtown Sault Ste. Marie or at the Marconi.

The 1993 Memorial Cup champs will also hold a private party on Saturday night for players and invited guests.

Coached by Ted Nolan and captained by Rick Kowalsky, the 1993 Memorial Cup triumph is the one and only such title for the Soo’s Ontario Hockey League team.

It was on May 23, 1993 that the Greyhounds defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-2 in an all-OHL final to win the Memorial Cup in front of more than 4,500 fans at venerable Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie.

Other teams participating in the tournament were the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League and the Laval Titan of the Quebec Major Jr. Hockey League.

Future Stanley Cup winner Kevin Hodson was named the top goalie at the 1993 Memorial Cup tournament while Greyhound teammate Ralph Intranuovo was voted the most valuable player.

Hodson, Intranuovo, fellow forward Chad Penney and defenseman Drew Bannister were all named to the 1993 Memorial Cup all-star team.
