New hire for Sudbury Wolves

Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League have hired Rob Papineau for the newly-created position of vice-president of hockey operations.

Wolves new chief executive officer and chairman Dario Zulich and holdover team president Blaine Smith made the announcement jointly.

Papineau will oversee all aspects of hockey operations for the Wolves with second-year general manager Barclay Branch reporting to him.

Papineau in turn will serve under the leadership of Smith who will report directly to Zulich.

“Rob is a strong addition to the great group of hard-working people we have,” said Zulich, who recently finalized his ownership group’s purchase of the Wolves. “He will provide further support towards our goal of being a model OHL franchise.”

Papineau, who hails from the Sudbury area, has been a National Hockey League scout with the Carolina Hurricanes for the past five years. He played in the OHL from 1988 to 1991 with both the Ottawa 67’s and the erstwhile Detroit Ambassadors.

“It is my intention to work with the hockey staff, building on and contributing to the vision that is being established under the new ownership,” said Papineau.
