Overage forward Liam Hawell has been acquired by the Kitchener Rangers from the Guelph Storm in an impact Ontario Hockey League trade.

The hulking, 6-foot-5 Hawell scored 41 goals in 90 games, regular season and playoffs included, for the reigning OHL champions from Guelph in 2018-2019.

In getting Hawell from the rebuilding Storm, the poised-to-contend Rangers parted with two second round picks (2020 and 2023) and a third-round pick (2023), none of which originally belonged to Kitchener.

Hawell was originally selected by the Soo Greyhounds in the first round of the 2015 OHL priority selections draft.
