Wolves deal veteran goalie

Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League have traded 1997 birth-year goalie Troy Timpano to the Erie Otters for considerations well into the future — a second-round draft pick in 2021, a third-round pick in 2020 and a 10th-round pick in 2018.

A former second-round pick of the Wolves, Timpano has played in 93 games for Sudbury over the past three seasons. His departure leaves fellow 1997 birth-year puckstopper Zack Bowman and 1999 birth-year tender Jake McGrath as goalies on the Wolves roster.

“This was a transaction that took some time to transpire as discussions with Erie go back to early June,” noted Wolves general manager Barclay Branch. “Ultimately, Erie’s keen interest in Troy resulted in us being presented with an offer that we needed to give strong consideration.”

What you think about “Wolves deal veteran goalie”

  1. Not a fan of this trade at all!!! What is the G.M. thinking??? Timpanno is who kept the Wolves in so many games the past couple a years.

  2. Working on this since “June.” Otters were “keen” to make the deal. I’m sure they were. Unless Barclay’s acquiring picks for a later trade this puts Matsos on a really, really hot seat to start the season.
Next move should be to announce the acquisition of an OA goaltender.

  3. Erie won’t benefit from this trade at all. The Otters have very little talent left, if Dylan Strome sticks to the Coyotes. I’m surprised they finished 1st in the OHL (tied with London) last year without McDavid, but couldn’t get past London. Maybe this year will be different and promising for the Wolves.
