The first overall pick from the 2018 priority selections draft has gone on to become the Ontario Hockey League rookie of the year.

Forward Quinton Byfield of the Sudbury Wolves has been voted the OHL’s top first-year player for the 2018-2019 season after tallying 29 goals, 32 assists, 61 points in 64 regular-season games.

Wolves head coach Cory Stillman — who was the OHL’s rookie-of-the-year during the 1990-1991 season as a forward with the Windsor Spitfires — had plenty good to say about Byfield and what he brought to Sudbury as a first-year skater.

“He did everything for us since the start of the season,” Stillman noted. “What makes Quinton special, to me, is how hard he plays in all areas of the game.”
