New net duo in Espanola
Goalie Carter Arnold recently joined the Espanola Paper Kings of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to form a net tandem with Logan Vale. Arnold, who has a 2007 birth date, had been tending twine for the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League.

Arnold, who was picked by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the seventh round of the 2023 Quebec Maritimes Jr. Hockey League draft, won his first start for Espanola, allowing just two goals. He joined the Paper Kings after they traded goalie Jack Helkie to the Hearst Lumberjacks.
Meanwhile, Bill Vanderleest, who is the esteemed goalie coach for the NOJHL Paper Kings, likes what he has seen of Arnold so far in both practice and in game situations.
“Carter seems to be fitting in well,” Vanderleest relayed to Hockey News North. “I think he and Logan (Vale) will give us good tandem as the second half of the season moves forward. He is composed and calm in the net. He has good movement … great edges and tracking. He looks ready to make the most of his opportunity with the Kings.”
As a team, Espanola has been a high achiever well past the midway point of the ’25-26 regular season. The Paper Kings are part of a four team battle for third place with the Hearst Lumberjacks, Powassan Voodoos and Soo Thunderbirds within the 11 member NOJHL.
