Cowan clicks for Beavers
It has been a turnaround season for Camden Cowan of the Blind River Beavers. A 2006 birth year forward, Cowan leads Blind River in scoring in his first season with the Beavers after being acquired in a Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League trade with his hometown Soo Thunderbirds last summer.
The 5 foot 9, 160 pound Cowan played in 48 games for the Thunderbirds as an NOJHL rookie in ’24-25. Used in a limited role by the Thunderbirds, Cowan produced five goals, 15 assists, 20 points in the 48 games.
It has been a much different story for Cowan this season in Blind River on what is a young Beavers team. Through 40 games, Cowan has a team leading 35 points, including 13 goals. He has been even more productive over his past nine outings with 11 points for the Beavers, who are in a three team race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the NOJHL with the Iroquois Falls Storm and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
Blind River head coach and general manager Kyle Brick, who traded for Cowan last off season, has many good things to say about the youngster.
“Cam has been nothing but a pro both on and off the ice,” Brick relayed to Hockey News North. “He has been our engine all season and will be a huge factor if we are to make the playoffs . We could not be happier with our acquisition of Cam.”
