Sudbury rattles the Rock
Close to 1,000 fans were on hand at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex on Thursday to watch Sudbury’s best junior hockey team continue what has been a perfect playoff run to date.
Briir Long bagged two goals, four assists, six points to power the Sudbury Cubs to a 9-3 triumph over the visiting Timmins Rock in the opening game of the best of seven Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship series.
The two time reigning NOJHL champs from Sudbury now have a record of 9-0 in this year’s playoffs. Game 2 of the finals between the Cubs and Timmins is slated for tonight at 7:00 at Countryside.
As the Cubs are an NOJHL powerhouse, the cross town Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League are anything but.
Over their last three OHL playoff series — 2026 against the Brantford Bulldogs, 2025 against the Kingston Frontenacs and 2024 against the North Bay Battalion — the Wolves have lost 12 straight games in being swept on all three occasions.
