Hounds ink American duo
They are headed this way. Soo Greyhounds have gone south of the border to sign a pair of American born skaters ahead of the ’26-27 Ontario Hockey League season.
They are 2009 birth year defenseman Christoper Weiss and 2009 birth year forward Cam Anderson.
A product of Washington Township, Mich., Weiss graduated through the Detroit Honeybaked AAA program — the same one that produced top 2026 National Hockey League Draft prospect Chase Reid — before most recently starring for the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies in ’25-26.
Weiss was the Greyhounds’ sixth round pick, 123rd overall, at the 2025 OHL priority selections draft.
In 60 games played in Michigan Amateur Hockey Association and independent contests in ’25-26, the 6 foot 3, 190 pound Weiss rang up eight goals, 39 assists, 47 points.
Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis noted that Weiss had “an unbelievable year” in Oakland, Michigan with the Jr. Grizzlies.
“I think he is someone who has just really smoothed out his game,” Raftis added in praise of Weiss.
With an imposing frame, Weiss projects as a shutdown defenseman who can make a good first pass.
“Christopher is a lengthy defender who competes hard and makes life difficult on opposing forwards in his own zone,” Raftis relayed said further description of Weiss. “He is very effective in transition, using both his skating and puck-moving ability to quickly move play up ice and create offense for his teammates.”
As for the aforementioned Cam Anderson, he was picked by the Hounds in the ninth round, 170th overall, at the 2025 OHL Draft. And Raftis, as the Hounds GM, commented on the progress that Anderson has shown.
“Cam continues to impress at every level, consistently finding ways to lead his team and drive results. A true power forward, he understands his identity as a player and combines offensive skill with a relentless willingness to compete in hard areas. Dangerous along the walls and below the dots, he has no fear of getting to the difficult parts of the ice to create offense and make an impact,” began Raftis. “His unique combination of size, skill, and competitiveness gives him tremendous upside, and he is the type of player who will be extremely difficult for opposing defensemen to handle as he continues to reach his full potential.”
The 6 foot 3,190 pound Anderson, who is a product of Lake Villa, IL, appeared in 58 games with the Chicago Reapers 16U AAA squad in ’25-26 season recording 32 goals, 23 assists, 55 points.
