Trio in Soo net … Taylor has Spirit
Soo Greyhounds will head to training camp with three goalies under Ontario Hockey League contract. Meanwhile, former Hounds assistant coach Brendan Taylor has been hired by the Saginaw Spirit as its new bench boss.
Crowed Crease. Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis has confirmed to Hockey News North that the Red and White of Sault Ste. Marie now has three goalies — who are all six foot five — signed ahead of the ’26-27 season. They are newcomer David Vermirovsky, who the Hounds selected in the first round of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League import draft, 2024 fourth round priority selection drat pick William Camputaro and veteran holdover Landon Miller. Vermirovsky and Camputaro both have 2008 birth dates while Miller was born in 2006 and would be an overage if he plays in the OHL in ’26-27. “All are in the mix and having three signed goalies gives flexibility to push some guys,” relayed Raftis. Training camp for the Hounds begins on August 24.
Taylor Made For Saginaw. The Spirit has tapped Brendan Taylor to replace long-time head coach Chris Lazary behind the Saginaw bench. The 37-year old Taylor has 10 years of assistant coaching experience in the OHL including the past four with the Soo Greyhounds. Taylor is no stranger to Saginaw general manager Dave Drinkill. Both were part of Team Canada Red that won the gold medal at the 2025 Under 17 World Hockey Challenge. “It was a privilege to work alongside Brendan with Hockey Canada and to win together,” said Drinkill. “That gave me a first hand look at how he leads, prepares, and conducts himself every day. Players respect him because he’s genuine, he’s demanding, and he invests in their development. It stood out to me throughout this process how closely his vision aligns with ours when it comes to developing players and how we want to play the game.”
