Beavers and T-Birds both 2-0
Blind River Beavers and Soo Thunderbirds took different paths to winning both of their games on opening weekend of the ’26-27 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League regular season.
Playing at home, head coach Kyle Brick’s Beavers worked overtime in both of their victories, upending the Elliot Lake Vikings 4-3 before nipping the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 5-4. Blind River overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat Elliot Lake.
The Thunderbirds, meanwhile, retuned from Hearst with back to back 4-2 and 5-2 wins over the Lumberjacks.
Three players had three points apiece for Blind River in its two wins — forwards Jake Bond and Camden Cowan and defenseman Austin Schultz.
And veteran goalies Cam Boville and Nathan Maguire each posted road wins between the pipes for the Thunderbirds.
