Colin Kennedy clicks for two
As far as a first game as an Ontario Hockey League rookie goes, it could not have gone any better. Sault Ste. Marie product Colin Kennedy scored two goals and was named the game’s first star as the Erie Otters scored an impressive 5-1 road victory over the Guelph Storm.
Kennedy, a 2010 birth year centre, was taken by Erie with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2026 OHL priority selections draft from the Detroit Little Caesars AAA program. The youngster moved from the Sault to Detroit two years ago to better enhance his hockey development.
Notably, Kennedy is the son of former Windsor Spitfires forward (and captain) Craig Kennedy and the grandson of former Soo Greyhounds defenseman (and captain) Craig Hartsburg.
To be sure, it was an improbable win for Kennedy and his Erie mates in their OHL season opener at Guelph on Friday. The Otters are a young team that is not seen as a contender this season while the Storm is loaded up for ’26-27 as it is the host entry for next spring’s Memorial Cup championship tournament.
