Hounds have crowded crease
Soo Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis is in a pretty good position when it comes to his team’s goalie group. The Hounds currently have three goalies on their roster under Ontario Hockey League contract — 2006 birth year overage Landon Miller and 2008 birth year rookies David Vermirovsky and William Camputaro.
As the older — and far more experienced of the three — Miller is the presumptive choice by many to be moved by Raftis at some point. Though he has had an up and down OHL career of three full seasons with the Hounds prior to this one, the 6 foot 5 Miller has trade value. Notably, though, the market for an overage goalie may not exactly be a demanding one at this point in early October.
A number of OHL teams already have overage goalies in place. And while there are other teams who are currently struggling between the pipes, is it enough to warrant a trade for Miller at this point in the season?
I for one have always liked Miller.
I have seen him play some really good games for the Hounds over the years, including on the road in Windsor against the Spitfires on more than one occasion. And while he struggled to the extent that in each of the past two seasons he lost his starting job with the Hounds, I am of the notion that Miller’s confidence took a hit from since departed Soo coach John Dean, who was often publicly critical of the big goalie. It can be further noted that in eight seasons as the Hounds head coach, Dean did not give the appearance of knowing much about goalies, if anything.
At any rate, the Hounds of ’26-27 currently have three goalies. Barring a long-term injury, one will have to be traded at some point. And if Miller is the one, some OHL team might really benefit.
