It took moving on from his hometown team — the Soo Thunderbirds — for 2006 birth year forward Camden Cowan to establish himself as a high end Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League player with the rival Blind River Beavers.

So much so that Blind River head coach Kyle Brick named Cowan the captain of the NOJHL Beavers.

“From the moment Cam walked into training camp you could tell that he was prepared and ready to not only play but lead,” Brick relayed to Hockey News North. “His work ethic both on and off the ice is unmatched, he is the epitome of a pro and is the type of human that I want representing our team’s logo.

“As a second year player with the Beavers and now as a 20 year old, Cam has a great understanding of the standards here in Blind River and how the program operates … and we couldn’t think of a better person to have the C,” Brick added.

After putting up modest numbers of six goals, 15 assists, 21 points in 50 games with the Thunderbirds, Cowan’s game has taken off since being traded to Blind River.

In 49 games with the Beavers in ’25-26, Cowan clicked for 16 goals, 25 assists, 41 points. And through 18 games in Blind River this season, Cowan is second in team scoring with eight goals, 10 assists, 18 points for the Beavers, who are in the middle of the NOJHL standings with a record of 8-8-2.
