Rock rolls with Blaine Smith
Few can match the allegiance and longevity to the junior hockey game of the northeast region that the multi-talented — and all around good guy — Blaine Smith has shown over multiple decades.

Through more than 30 years as a president, director of marketing, general manager and right hand to the former owner of the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League — Mark Burgess — Smith has also mixed in key management roles with various Sudbury teams in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. He has also had an association with OHL Central Scouting as its go to guy in the north.
Now 68 years of age and showing no signs of slowing down, Smith not only manages his own firm these days — Legends Advice Inc. — but he has taken on a new position as the director of scouting for the Timmins Rock of the NOJHL.
All in all, Smith’s link to hockey in the north is now in the range of 45 years.
To be sure, the affable Smith is liking who he is hooked up with relative to the highly regarded Timmins NOJHL franchise, which is led by president Ted Gooch and head coach/general manager Sheldon Reasbeck.
“It is a pleasure working with Ted and Sheldon and their staff. Also nice to reunite with Bieds (assistant coach Brenden Biederman) from our Sudbury Jr. Wolves NOJHL days (of 2006 to 2008) when he played for us,” Smith relayed to Hockey News North.
“I’m looking forward to helping the Timmins Rock win another championship by scouting, recruiting and referencing my hockey network from my OHL days,” Smith added.
Notably, both Smith and aforementioned Timmins president Ted Gooch were among the first inductees into the Hockey North Hall of Fame in 2025.
