Soo Thunderbirds have lost both games to begin the Centennial Cup national junior A hockey championship tournament in Estevan, Saskatchewan. The Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League champs lost to the Summerside Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League on Friday despite a big game performance from goalie Noah Zeppa.

The Thunderbirds gave up three power play goals in a 4-1 loss to Summerside. Zeppa made 40 saves and was named player of the game for the Thunderbirds, who were outshot 44-14 by Summerside.

“(Zeppa) was unreal and aside from a handful of guys, we had way too many passengers to compete in the game,” relayed Thunderbirds head coach Cole Jarrett. “Plain and simple, we got outworked, outplayed and outclassed.”

Having lost the opening game of the Centennial Cup tournament to the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League, the Thunderbirds will take a record of 0-2 into their next action, which is not until Monday afternoon at 2:00 when they face off against the Ottawa Jr. Senators of the Central Canada Hockey League.
