Who will coach the Greyhounds?
The search for the next head coach of the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds has brought in about 40 applications to date.
With Sheldon Keefe having accepted a job as head coach of the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League earlier this month, the list of those who aspire to be the next bench boss of the Greyhounds will be reduced to 10 that will be granted interviews.
Even as it was only speculation that Keefe was headed for a pro job, one name that quickly surfaced as his potential successor is that of Jason Clarke, who coaches and manages the Carleton Place Canadians of the tier 2 junior, Central Canada Hockey League.
Others whose names that have been linked to the vacant coaching position in the Soo are holdover Hound assistants Joe Cirella and A.J. MacLean as well as the likes of Denny Lambert, Jordan Smith and Doug Shedden.
Lambert is a former Greyhound player, assistant coach and head coach who was the bench boss of the champion Batchewana Attack of the now-dormant Canadian International Hockey League in 2014-2015.
Smith is also a former Hounds player who coached the Soo Thunderbirds to the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship in 2014-2015.
And Shedden is yet-another former Hounds star who has been coaching in the Kontinental Hockey League for the past several seasons. The KHL is the top professional hockey league in Europe.
Jason Clark yes that is the name that RR posted on Twitter/Facebook over a month ago.
After you mention Clark RR the Sault Star has his name today as a prominant candidate.
I think we need a new identity not coaches from the past. unless of course it is ted Nolan other guys mentioned not a good idea. Jordan smith maybe as a assistant you gotta crawl before you walk, this is a highly skilled team a coach with lots of experience is a must I think.
