From junior hockey to the Canadian university ranks. Reigning, two time Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League champion Sudbury Cubs have confirmed that graduated defenceman Michael MacLean has committed to attend the University of Guelph — and play for the Gryphons — effective the upcoming ’25-26 term.

The 6 foot 5, 205 pound MacLean skated in 30 games — regular season and playoffs included — for the Cubs after being picked up in early January at the Canadian Jr. Hockey League roster deadline. In total, the 2004 birth year defender put up seven goals, 10 assists, 17 points for Sudbury from his blue line post.
“After joining us at the trade deadline, Michael immediately made a positive impact, both on the ice, and in the dressing room,” relayed Cubs’ head coach Darryl Moxam. “He was an integral part to the success of our program this past season.”
