NOJHL champs begin with win
Sudbury Cubs started their Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League title defense with a firm 4-0 white wash of the Timmins Rock in the ’25-26 regular season opener.

Retread goalie Matthew Vahramian turned aside all 15 shots directed his way and Eidan Macartney potted a pair of goals to pace the two time reigning champions to the season opening win over Timmins before a Thursday night home crowd of a tad under 400 fans. Ace defenseman Spencer Horgan and rookie Cam Vehkala also scored for Sudbury.
Vahramian is back in Sudbury after being traded to the St. Thomas Stars of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League midway through the ’24-25 season.
The Cubs have another home game on the slate for tonight; a 7:10 p.m. start at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex against the Hearst Lumberjacks.
