Hounds running on empty
Twice they were within an extra attacker goal of sending the game into overtime. Twice however the visiting Soo Greyhounds lost to the Kitchener Rangers and now trail the second round Ontario Hockey League Western Conference semi final playoff series two games to none.
Games three and four are set for Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie this Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Rangers 3, Greyhounds 1. Hayden Ellis scored twice for Kitchener which needed an empty net goal from Sam O’Reilly to put away the visiting Hounds. Quinn McKenzie scored the only goal for the Soo, which actually outshot Kitchener by a 28-26 margin.
Rangers 8, Greyhounds 5. Twice the Hounds had one goal leads in the third period but — in frustrating fashion — could not hang on. Dylan Edwards scored twice for the Blueshirts — including the game winner –and Sam O’Reilly netted the hat trick, including two into the empty net. Marco Mignosa and Jeremy Martin each scored twice for the Greyhounds in what was a penalty filled match in which the Soo could not convert on a pair of 5 on 3 opportunities.
