Michigan Soo native and Lake Superior State Lakers recruit Ashton Calder is off to a sparkling start with the Surrey Eagles of the British Columbia Hockey League.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward, who recently joined Surrey from the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League, fired three goals and added an assist in his BCHL debut with the Eagles.

Calder, who has a 1998 birth date, played major midget hockey with the Soo Indians under coach Pat Carricato before moving up to the junior ranks.

With three seasons of junior eligibility remaining — including this one — Calder is projected to advance to the Division 1, Western Collegiate Hockey Association level at Lake Superior State within the next year or two.
