Eagles get Catt

Soo Eagles have acquired 1994 birth-year goalie Chad Catt from the Aberdeen Wings in a North American Hockey League deal that was finalized just before Friday’s midnight trade deadline.

In exchange for Catt, who was in his third season with Aberdeen, the Soo gives up a 2015 draft pick to the Wings.

Catt had a record of 8-13-1 with a 2.84 goals-against-average and .902 save percentage with Aberdeen this season.

Eagles coach-general manager Bruno Bragagnolo said the acquisition of Catt “gives us more experience at the position.”

A Michigander, Catt will team with 1996 birth-year rookie Jack Berry to form the Eagles goaltending tandem for the rest of the season.

Aberdeen coach-director of hockey operations Francis Anzalone said that as a last-year junior, Catt will get a well-deserved, fresh start in the Soo.

“Going to the Soo will be a good opportunity for Catt,” said Anzalone. “He deserves the opportunity to play more down the stretch. I hope he does well.”

Andrew Shortridge — who has a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association commitment to play at Quinnipiac University — had taken over as the starting goalie in Aberdeen ahead of Catt.

What you think about “Eagles get Catt”

  1. This might be a shake up that the Eagles need. I guess with this trade that Shawn Keating becomes the odd man out ???

  2. Catt is a good goalie who had really good number’s last year in Aberdeen. Maybe not quite as good number’s this year I think how ever that Catt can take the Soo Eagles in to the playoffs and that the Soo can win with Catt. He is a steady goaltender who makes the routine saves.

  3. Last year the Eagles won only 25 games and finished last in their division. This year they have won 21 of 43 games so far. I can see them going 9 and 8 to finish the season with 30 wins. Enough to make the playoffs?

  4. As a fan from Aberdeen, you guys are getting a great player and a great guy overall . Haven’t met a person who didn’t like Catt, definanlty a fan favorite. Not afraid to get fiesty either, he’ll shove a defenseman out of the way if you get in his face. The word around town is that Catt and Anzalone do not see eye to eye, same for the recently traded Austin Swingle. Hard to see a veteran go, take care of him Soo.

  5. Exactly right about Chad, Jesse Lavoy! You describe him rather well. ..
As for Coach Anzaloane he is a good Coach good at what he does and not all Player’s and Coach’s “see eye to eye”.

  6. Well Well Well Hmmmmmmmmmm I see that the “Blame the Goalie Game” has bee gan !
My many many years of training tell me that Keating is a dam good Goalie !

    1. Hattrix23,

Pursuant to your comment to Mr. Applegate, I am waiting for confirmation that Sean Keating will indeed be reporting to the Minnesota Magicians from the Soo Eagles. Can you confirm?

      Regards,

      Randy

  7. Eagles in need of steady, competent goalie. Maybe Catt/Berry combo will be the answer.I have observed the has team has been inconsistent this year. Remember, the goalie is usually only as good as the team in front of him.
