Cougars busy at the rinks

The men’s and women’s hockey teams from Sault College were on the ice against the Michigan-based Davenport University Panthers on the weekend.

The men were on the road and the women were at home.

The lady Cougars of Sault College lost a pair of home games to Davenport by close scores of 3-1 and 3-2 at Rankin Arena.

While the Sault College women were at home, the Cougar men were on the road at Davenport for a pair of games. After Sault College lost the first match to Davenport by a 6-5 margin, they returned home following a 5-3 victory for a split of the weekend road set.

Goals for the Sault College women in the two-game series were scored by Rachel Barban, Mackenzie Nadeau and Megan Turcotte.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Nigro sparked the Sault College men with a five goal weekend. Jamie Kamzol, Nathan Churley, Kaelan O’Flynn, Andrew Barbeau and Max Khull all scored once apiece.

Chad Mousseau and Danny Lambert are coaches of the women’s team.

Veteran minor hockey bench boss Mike Hall and Rod Trudel are the Sault College men’s coaches.
