It’s official.

Soo Eagles of the Tier 2 North American Hockey League have signed 1995 birth-year forward Jacob Hernandez from the Tier 3 Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League.

Hernandez, who was in his second season with the Fighting Irish, had been practising with the Eagles for the past two weeks. The Eagles used the final spot on their 23-man NAHL roster to sign the Detroit area native.

“He’s a big, strong kid who has potential,” Eagles coach-general manager Bruno Bragagnolo said of the 6-foot-3, 215 pound Hernandez. “He is a really good kid who works hard. He has improved every practice that he has been with us. We like what we see.”

From his end, Hernandez was ecstatic to have earned a roster spot with the Eagles.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the North American Hockey League,” said Hernandez. “I am so grateful and thankful for this opportunity.”

Hernandez had 20 goals, 12 assists, 32 points and 128 penalty minutes in 26 MWJHL games with the Fighting Irish this season.

  2. As I have stated before I luv the way this kid plays and kuddos to the Eagles for signing him and its is no surprise that RR had a hand in all of this.

  3. I just hope he gets the playing time he feels he deserves, otherwise this move might be more of a detriment to his hockey development.

    1. deuceswild,

What would you know about any playing time that Jake Hernandez apparently feels he deserves?

I happened to talk to him after he signed with the Eagles yesterday. He knows there are no guarantees for playing time and he is willing to work to earn whatever playing time that he may get. He is “thrilled beyond belief” to have signed with an NAHL team. His words, by the way.

  4. to Firehawks forever: again the guy you keep calling ” goon” has moved up to the next level which is great ‘ hope he does well and wish him all the best ‘
