WINDSOR — Sault Ste. Marie product Gage Evans is officially among the elite young players in the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League while patrolling the blue line here for the Windsor LaSalle Vipers.

Evans has been chosen to be a part of the GOJHL’s Top Prospects Showcase event of players from the 23-team league. The top prospects of the GOJHL will be divided among four teams.

Evans has two goals, six assists, eight points and 33 penalty minutes in 26 GOJHL games for LaSalle thus far this season. LaSalle is in first place in the Western Conference of the GOJHL with a record of 20-7-1

Still growing and now at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, the hulking defenseman with a 2006 birth date was a 14th round pick by the Windsor Spitfires from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League at the 2022 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft. Evans, who then spent the 2022-2023 season with the Windsor Zone of the Under 18 Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario, remains on the radar of the OHL Spitfires.

Evans springs from good Sault Ste. Marie hockey roots. His dad, Cory Evans, played in the OHL for the Spitfires of Windsor from 1993 to 1995 after being acquired in a trade with the London Knights. A hustling, fearless left winger, the elder Evans was originally drafted by London in the seventh round of the 1991 OHL priority selections draft.
