So far, so good.

Detroit Fighting Irish forward Jacob Hernandez will continue his audition with the Soo Eagles next week.

Hernandez, a 1995 birth-year forward who is in his second season with the Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League, practised with the Eagles of the North American Hockey League for three days earlier this week and impressed coach-general manager Bruno Bragagnolo and associate coach Alex Sawruk.

“He’s a big, strong kid who has some potential,” Bragagnolo said of the 6-foot-3, 215 pound Hernandez. “Alex and I like him enough to want to take a longer look at him.”

Hernandez, who has 20 goals, 12 assists, 32 points and 112 penalty minutes in 25 MWJHL games with the Fighting Irish this season, returned home to Detroit after Thursday’s practice with the Eagles to collect some personal belongings. He is slated to return to the Soo on Sunday and resume skating with the Eagles next week.

A character individual who has a reputation for being a good teammate as a captain with the Fighting Irish, Hernandez said he is taking nothing for granted with regards to his status with the Eagles.

“It feels really good to be invited back,” said Hernandez. “But right now, it’s just another three-day tryout. Hopefully I can continue to make a good impression.”

What you think about “Hernandez hangs in with Eagles”

  1. Good for u Jake … show them what u got. We will miss u if u make it up North … but we will be happy for u!

  2. Firehawks4ever : in your eyes he’s a goon but to still be practicing with a NAHL team means he’s doing something right goon or not

  3. I hear the Firehawks hurt Hernandez in a game and the Firehawks coaching staff also got involved Don’t worry Firehawks are coached by 3 guys who I hear got booted out of Soo mich hockey 8-10 years back for not controlling players . Then they went and started their own team . They still have same problems
