Junior hockey is indeed returning to Jamestown, NY for the 2014-2015 season.

Jamestown Area Hockey Associates — an ownership group comprised of local businessmen and community leaders — made it official at a press conference today.

HockeyNewsNorth.com first reported back on February 16 that a Jamestown group had agreed in principle to purchase the Michigan Mountain Cats of the North American 3 Hockey League.

Today’s announcement made the purchase official.

Jamestown was left without junior hockey for the 2013-2014 season when the Jamestown Ironmen of the North American Hockey League went dormant.

The new Jamestown NA3HL team will play out of the same facility that housed the NAHL Ironmen — the state-of-the-art, Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.

“We are very pleased that hockey will be returning to the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena,” said Brian Cersosimo, who was recently named new general manager of the JSBA. “There is a lot of work that has gone into making this a reality for the benefit of the community, especially with a local group of owners who live here and support the community on a personal and professional level.”

Cersosimo confirmed that the new Jamestown ownership group will be holding a name-the-team contest.

Hockey fans interested in entering the contest are invited to send three team-name ideas, along with their name, address, age and contact information to nameyourteam@gmail.com.

Entries will be accepted until March 24.

The winner, along with the new team name and logo, will be announced soon after, said Cersosimo.
