Lady Cougars at home

Home at last. For the first time since Covid created closures and forced leagues and programs into forms of shutdown, a Sault College hockey team is slated to play at home.

Sault College Cougars are scheduled to play host to the Bowling Green Falcons in Division 2, American Collegiate Hockey Association women’s action this weekend at Rankin Arena. Game times are 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

While the Sault College men’s team has yet to schedule an ACHA home game this season, the school’s manager of athletics is looking forward to the Lady Cougars being at Rankin Arena this weekend.

“It’s been a long number of years for our (hockey teams) not being able to play league games at home. Playing on the road created many challenges and is the reason we are so thrilled to be back in our familiar surroundings. In addition to not having to travel, there is nothing that can replace playing in front of a supportive crowd in your own arena,” said Paul Orazietti.

With head coach Brianne Veale at the helm, the Lady Cougars are off to a 4-0-0 start in ACHA action thus far this season and have out-scored their opponents by a whopping 39-5 margin.

Admission to this weekend’s game is $8 for adults. Children under 12 and students with a valid Sault College ID will be admitted at no charge.
