Leading the Soo Indians

So far, so good. They are already 11 games into the 2023-2024 season as members of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. And it has been a strong showing thus far for the Soo Indians, who have a record of 8-3-0.

Area products have been particularly productive for the Indians thus far in the early going.

Deven Jones McDonald is atop the Indians scoring chart with five goals, 10 assists, 15 points. Evan Hoglund is close behind with six goals, eight assists, 14 points and Carter Huckson has six goals, five assists, 11 points.

Jones McDonald and Huckson were teammates with the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League in 2022-2023 while Hoglund formerly suited up with the Sault High Blue Devils.

Also of note from a local standpoint for the Indians has been the play of goalie Nathan Maguire, who has a record of 4-2-0 with a 1.66 goals against average. Maguire also played for the U18 Jr. Greyhounds in ’22-23 as a teammate of the aforementioned Jones McDonald and Huckson.

Maguire and Jones McDonald were both picked at the 2023 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft. Maguire went in the sixth round to the Flint Firebirds while Jones McDonald was a 11th round pick of the Oshawa Generals.
