Marson stands out for Hounds
Soo Jr. Greyhounds were outshot, outscored and generally outplayed by the powerhouse Waterloo Wolves in their opening night match at the Central Region Under 18 AAA Hockey Championship Tournament at the Northern Community Centre.
Waterloo built an early 2-0 lead and while the hosts from the Soo narrowed the margin to 2-1, that was as close as the U18 Jr. Hounds got in dropping a 5-2 decision to the Wolves.
While the Jr. Hounds were able to skate with the visitors from Waterloo for a few shifts at a time, no Soo player was nearly as impressive as goalie Nick Marson, who made 34 saves, many of them of the spectacular variety. The 6-foot-1, 175 pound Marson, who has a December, 2007 birth date, was certainly in the right mindset in a truly inspiring performance between the pipes for the Soo.
The week long event at the NCC features six teams including the Jr. Greyhounds, the Great North Under 18 Hockey League champion Timmins Majors, plus the winners from Alliance Hockey, the Greater Toronto Hockey League, the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Eastern Ontario.
