Despite missing six of his team’s games this 2013-2014 season, Frankie Pucci has emerged as the leading scorer for the Soo Indians major midgets.

Pucci, a 1997 birth-year centre and Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the Erie Otters, topped the Indians scoring chart with 22 goals, 34 assists, 56 points in 46 games.

Prior to joining the Indians, the Sault Ste. Marie product spent the 2012-2013 campaign with the Soo Thunder minor midgets.

Pucci’s 56 points are six more than fellow 1997 birth-year forward Cole Lussier. Lussier totalled 22 goals, 28 assists, 50 points in 50 games.

Next is Casey Gilling, a 1998 birth-year forward who produced 16 goals, 26 assists, 42 points in 48 games.

Through 52 games this season, the Pat Carricato-coached Indians put together an impressive record of 29-22-1.

The Indians are in Lansing to play the Capitals in a best-of-three, qualifying-round playoff that begins on Friday. The winner of the series will advance to the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association state championships, which will be held in the Detroit suburb of Taylor beginning on March 12.
