Geoff Walker is headed to Sweden to take over as head coach of Vannas HC, which is a Division 1 program. The 34-year old Walker becomes a pro coach after piloting the Red Lake Miners of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League to the 2022 playoff championship.

Geoff Walker hosts the SIJHL championship trophy as coach of the Red Lake Miners.

Walker recently stepped down as Red Lake’s coach and general manager and subsequently confirmed that he had signed a one-year contract to coach at the professional level in Sweden.

Prior to going to Red Lake and the SIJHL in 2018, Walker — who hails from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island — played 10 years of professional hockey in leagues in North America and the United Kingdom. He is also a former high scoring forward who starred in the Quebec Major Jr. Hockey League for four years.

Now, in heading to Sweden, Walker told Hockey News North that he was prepared to return to Red Lake for another season until receiving the offer to be the bench boss for Vannas HC.
