Rick Kowalsky, coach-of-the-year

Rick Kowalsky, who captained the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League to the 1993 Memorial Cup championship as an energetic, inspirational right winger, has been named American Hockey League coach-of-the-year for the 2015-2016 season.

The 44-year old Kowalsky is in his sixth season as head coach of the AHL’s Albany Devils, who are the top farm club of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.

Prior to coaching in the AHL with Albany, Kowalsky was bench boss of the Trenton Devils of the East Coast Hockey League for four years.

Kowalsky, who hails from Simcoe, Ont., is married with children to the former Debbie Grigg of Sault Ste. Marie.
