George Wood

We have lost another good one.

Just 53 years old, George Wood passed away suddenly on Sunday, leaving behind a loving family including parents, wife, sons and many others.

Quietly active in the community as a business owner and low-key hockey parent, George typified a good, simple, humble guy — someone who was happy just to talk about his family, fish, hunt and have a beer.

I knew George through hockey and mutual friends, such as my good buddy, Dr. Kevin Caruso.

Both of George’s boys are players, the oldest, Caleb, a 20-year old forward with the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

It is easy to describe George because he was just an unassuming guy who always seemed to fit in, no matter who he was around.

Bless you and your family and friends, George.

And the next time I drink an Alexander Keith’s beer, the toast will be to you.

Following is George’s obituary.

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden death of George Paul Wood, age 53, on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at SAH surrounded by his family.

Loved husband and best friend to Sheri, loved and cherished father of Caleb (Amber) and Daekyum. Lovingly remembered son of George and Gloria Wood. Dear son-in-law of Lynn Troke (late Walter). Forever missed brother of Linda Avery (Wade), David Wood (Mary Claire), Debbie Sullivan (Pat), Jim Wood, Sandra Edwards (Harvey). Brother-in-law of Gary Troke. Special and loved uncle to Bobbi Shaw (Steve), Mike Avery, Christoper Wood (Kaitlyn), Jillian Wood, Sara McCarty (Cole), Nathan Gallagher (Kaylyn), Zac Wood (Maggie), Alex Wood, Kate Wood (Ben), Brent Edwards (Krysten) and Shawn Edwards (Amanda). Missed by his furry companions TeddyB and Niko.

George cherished his many friends who will miss him. He loved his work, hockey, fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved being a husband to Sheri for 31 years and an amazing Dad to Caleb and Dae.
