Sault College at the break

They will both head into the 2024 segment of this season’s schedule with very impressive records within the ranks of the Division 2, American Collegiate Hockey Association. Sault College Cougars women’s team has a record of 10-0-0 while the men have a 15-3-0 mark.

Brianne Shunock, who is the holdover head coach of the reigning ACHA D2 national champions, noted how this edition of the Sault College women has carried over the winning ways of last season despite having nine first year players on its roster of 20.

“It has been a fresh start in a way and we have had to adjust our type of play but to carry our unbeaten season of last season into this season says a lot about us,” Shunock relayed on a recent edition of the Hockey North Show Podcast.

Emily Moore is leading the Lady Cougars in scoring to date with 13 goals, 18 assists, 31 points. Next is Emma Lee with 17 goals, 13 assists, 30 points followed by Materia Land with 16-11-27 totals, M.P. Lecours with 5-18-23 numbers and Jasmine Groleau with 11-10-21 totals.

Over to the Sault College men, first year head coach Tanner Burton has the Cougars roaring with the aforementioned 15-3-0 record.

“We have had a very strong start to our season,” Burton relayed to Hockey News North. “The team has bought into playing for one another and it has been very special to be a part of this thus far. We have a strong strength of schedule in the second half so it is going to be a good test for our guys to see how far we have come as a team in the new year.”

Ethan Esposito is leading the Sault College men with 24 goals, 11 assists, 35 points. Up next is Nick Jameus with four goals, 29 assists, 33 points. Then it is Michael Chaffay with 10 goals, 18 assists, 28 points, Caleb Wood with 12-10-22 numbers and three players with identical totals of 7-11-18 — Russell Oldham, Dylan Winsor and defenseman Jackson Jacques.
